22 Day Push Up Challenge

I did the 22 day push up challenge to commemorate veterans who are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.

This was part of a campaign set out by #22KILL to raise awareness that 22 veterans lose their life to suicide every day mainly because they have become institutionalised and struggle to make that transition from their military life to a civilian one.

Research shows the main reason they feel so isolated is because they have lost their sense of purpose and all their skills and expertise they would have acquired, are no longer deemed to have any value.

This is of course not true, because they can inspire thousands of people with their fitness drills they had once brutally perfected as part of their regime.

Here is a short video of my progress .....

22 DAY PUSH UP CHALLENGE

I do push ups as part of my weekly training anyway but I knew the daily grind of doing more than 20 would be particularly testing as there would be no 'rest day' but something miraculous happened ..... around day 12 I was able to complete them with much greater ease . The biceps I expected but I developed ab definition and lost another 2 lbs with absolutely no change to my diet.

The challenge took no more than 2 minutes a day with including any added variations and the greatest amount of time was spent actually recording the exercise and editing it for the 60 second Instagram window.

Bottom line: If I can do it - anyone can.

If you can't find the time to train, I know I get it - you have a life - I need just ONE minute please?

My training philosophy is all about progress.

If you've got even an ounce of inspiration from this, please like my Facebook page @deviworkout.

Peace out y'all

MOTIVATION

Soooo you want to get fitter? Trimmer? Healthier?  BUT ...... you just can't get motivated?

Well I got news for you honey - this one is ALL down to you!!!

To FEEL motivated there is literally only one thing you can do. MOVE IT! By DOING the thing you hate the most - you will automatically get motivated to keep at it once you realise how much easier it is in practice.

The THOUGHT of it is much much worse than the reality.  I don't care if you don't want to. I know it sucks so here's the deal: you're going to take action and it's going to cost you nothing  - by doing so you are already instilling a super habit and you'll progress into kick ass warrior mode in no time - so get up already!

Here's 3 things I need you to do right away - stop everything you're doing - put the phone down and do this (trust me!)

1. Jump on the scales ( I know it's scary that's WHY you gotta do it - you know it's making you feel uncomfortable - confront it and don't let it bother you any more)

2. Write down EVERYTHING you've eaten (and drunk) today

3. This is the one people hate the most : take a full length picture of yourself ..... preferably in your underwear (erm no I don't need to see it don't worry!)

P.S. If you can't face doing the last one - even more reason to get on with 1 and 2!

Now - you know what you're dealing with - you need to make exercise your daily routine - you'll progress at a manageable pace so it won't overwhelm you . The worse thing you can do is make promises you can't keep . Take small steps and follow them through - every. single. day!!!

Give me SEVEN minutes of your morning - and I can change your life forever.
And when I say change it - I mean CHANGE!

Do the following exercises for 30 seconds each (yeah really - that is ALL !!)

- Jogging on the spot
- Star jumps
- High knees
- Squats
- Push ups
- Lunges
- Skipping

Rinse and repeat..

Finito. Congratulations - you just made your first breakthrough - remember - EVERY morning. You know that one really annoying and fit person who makes it look so easy? Soon it's going to be you.

Break your old habits once and for all and relish the thought that where most people give up - you are going to fight for your life and make it happen.

How to break up with the Love of your Life

I knew something wasn't right,  not only was it not working, it was HURTING me. Numerous people tried to warn me but I refused to accept it!

I thought a break for a few weeks would help.  I was pining for the first few days  I won't lie, but after precisely 3 weeks it became somewhat bearable.  I filled my life with new, positive things,  and it worked.

This weekend I came face to face with the object of my desire,  and this is what I had to say.

"The distance has made me realise you were no good for me!  All these years I loved you,  but it seems I was just addicted to you in an unhealthy way.  Don't get me wrong,  you look great, even now,  but I'm going to be honest,  I don't even fancy you anymore.
I've made up my mind.  It's over".

Here is a picture of (what I thought was) my true love:

Bread.

I gave it up for Lent.   It's been an eye opening experience for sure,  and I'm never looking back.  This extends to pizza,  naan, baguettes.... you name it.

Breakups don't have to hurt.  In fact,  the opposite can be true.  :-)

Happy Easter

Cheat the System

Hi All,

You know when you have the best intentions to eat healthy,  but it feels like everything is against you? OK,  so this is what you got to do:  Prepare for the worst! Yep! Which means you have to plan for all your future slip-ups.

For example,  I avoid dairy and caffeine where possible. Recently I was out at a great restaurant with a mate in Manchester and was super disappointed they had no herbal tea.
Say what?? !!!

I didn't panic too much though,  as I've learnt to carry my own stash.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I remember a time when I didn't think twice about indulging in an endless marathon of caramel macchiatos, whipped cream mochas, and other frothy desserts that were meant to be coffee!  Now, drinking that stuff physically makes me want to throw up.

I discovered a better way.

First of all, this counts towards your water intake!  Get in! Second,  it's hot - which is highly lauded by the ayurveda world. Third...it's a quick and easy way to pick up superfood boosters!  Each one with their own array of healing properties.

The benefits beg a whole new post of their own,  so they're getting one.   Just remember - take your health journey one step at a time.    The world will try every trick in the book to divert your attention.     You're so much stronger than that, don't fall for it ;-)

Cheers to a hotter,  healthier you!

DIETS DON'T WORK

Really?

Yeah.   Really.

Sure if you follow a diet plan to the letter and train like a trooper you'll get instant results.... BUT....how likely is it that you'll keep this up after reaching your goal weight??  Probably none, at least not unless you commit to a miserable sentence of 'Lifetime Dieting'.

The problem is not necessarily about you eating badly, or bad genes, or "that you were born unlucky!!".   The problem is: you are not in the HABIT of eating HEALTHY. Yes,  there is a difference.

Never ever make unrealistic demands on yourself that set you up for a fall.   Instead, start with ONE small change you can quite easily sustain forever.   Eg glass of water in the morning,  or one extra portion of green veg per day.    Once you start feeling the benefits,  you'll crave the clean energy of healing food.  Strive to make that your new addiction.

I have given up bread for Lent (I wasn't brave enough to dismiss desserts as well) but this is a change I would like to keep.

Not because of the carb content by the way, but there's been some conspiracy around wheat having an addictive nature and how a new monstrous strain of wheatgerm has been cultivated by the food industry.

I'll keep you posted after Easter to see if I kept it up!

Until next time,  have a fabulous week of energy and vitality.
